Student successes: Soultime Skincare

Meet Meg Baillie, creator of Soultime Skincare, New Zealand

Meg took our Diploma in Natural Skincare Formulation in 2014. We catch up with her and see how her business is flourishing.

Why did you decide to start your brand? What was the catalyst/inspiration behind it?

Seeking a change in direction, and a lifestyle change, I felt I wanted to do something creative and help people in another way.

What is the essence of your product line? What is unique about it?

I hope my products provide nourishment for the soul as well as the skin – hence the name. We use high-performing specialist oils, New Zealand botanical extracts and pure essential oils and are based on the ancient healing art of aromatherapy.

What is your favorite or most popular product from your skincare line?

Probably our Pomegranate & Borage Serum with Ylang-ylang and Neroli.  Customers love the silky feel and it’s also priced very reasonably.

What do you love about running your business or creating your products?

I love the freedom, the creativeness and the dreams I have for my business.

How has the Diploma in Natural Skincare Formulation helped you with your business?

I didn’t really start my business until completing the course, which I loved! The whole business from conception has been an exciting and enjoyable process.

The course gave me confidence that I could do this and that it would be based on sound knowledge and safe practice. I refer back to the notes frequently when formulating a new product.

What did you enjoy most about the course?

The way the course was organised and the detailed information we were given.

What advice would you give someone who dreams of starting their own skincare line?

Think very carefully before leaving a full-time role, a new business takes time, patience and perseverance, as well as money for marketing, etc.

What do you do to relax, unwind and get away from it all?

Enjoy a nice glass of New Zealand chardonnay, a walk along the beach, cook for family and friends, read, learn anything I can to help me grow my business.
